Tim talked last night about time. He mentioned that old adage in passing, that "time is money." A thought crossed my mind, and I won't dare guess where it came from. It was this: If time is money, do I need to tithe on it? 2.4 hours per day? That's 2 hours and 24 minutes, which is basically two-and-a-half hours. Just a thought.

Evening and morning and noon will I pray and cry aloud and You shall hear my voice...King David. Let's see 2 hrs. 24 min = 144 minutes / 3 times a day = 48 minutes each. That's do-able. It would be like a generous worship set. Nice!
If it were to mean we should tithe on it... tithe is a given, you do it because you want to obey God and do what he says... He says 10%, so we give that. But then would there be an offering with the time? Go above and beyond the 144 minutes?
And how exactly in the midst of a day with a 3 year old do I come up with the 144 minutes to START with?

God has been talking to me a lot on this subject. i've been struggling with committing for a few months now. Another step of faith.

And ya, I was trying to think about how to legistically work that and just got really afraid. That would be something like an hour in the morning, 45 minutes in the afternoon, and 45 minutes before bed. Which would be great, but ... Sheesh.

But then again, does the time you spend volunteering in ministry count? Because that's time going back to God. It's not directly between the two of you, but it's being used for His Kingdom purposes. Hmm?
this is an interesting concept, however the bible does say 6 days work and on the 7th rest? so does the one day of rest = a tithe and offering or are these seperate all together
Maybe it depends how you spend that day of rest. Family trip to the park probably wouldn't count as tithing your time, but if you spend 16.8 hours on Sunday with Holy Spirit you could tithe the whole week at once!
Just some thoughts...
If time is money and we tithe the fruit of our labor, that means that we tithe what the time produces therefore we are covering the time we work. I'm thinking.
Yes, God rested on the 7th day but we also rest at the end of every day. And God does give us restful sleep (except when we're woken up out of our sleep to pray and then it's good to obey). So, we can tithe our rest but that doesn't always mean to stay up later unless God asks us to. We can however tithe our rest during non-sleep hours.
So, how do we tithe the remainder of time (1.83 hours per day)? I think that when we give of ourselves to serve in church or other ministries (non-salary), we are giving/tithing our time. When we share the gospel or help someone in need we are giving/tithing our time.
The thing I think is important is to set aside "some time" every day for just you and God.
What's the verse where it says "Time is money" or is that some cute saying man made up? :)
My mom also talks about tithing people. Wherever they speak churches take up an offering for them, which is wonderful, but my mom always says we need more missionaries! Tithe your people to missions! So...we need to be sending 10% of our people overseas for longterm missions. Any takers? =)
How many people is that, then? From CITW? 25-ish? Do they have to go overseas? I mean what if someone's just called to ... um ... South Carolina? Does that count?
That's right, sista! We were sent by God from CITW... and I miss everyone!
Not to get too mushy, but make sure you guys hang out and love one another at least once a week (and that don't mean Sundays!). Because if I could be there, I would try harder to do just that. In fact, anyone want to come over and play a game? I'll make dinner....messy home and all!
